I believe that the quality of our relationships with our bodies and minds determines the quality of our lives. On my new website (coming soon!), I’ll be sharing resources to help you let go of stress by reclaiming the aliveness of your inner experience. So many of us have difficulty being present with ourselves because being present means having to tolerate overwhelming racing thoughts and intense physical and emotional reactions. As a result, we are cut off and disconnected from our truest nature, that is, the nature of befriending our own Selves. When this disconnection happens, we stop feeling safe in our own skin and gradually lose a sense of agency over our thoughts, feelings, and sensations. It’s too uncomfortable or even too dangerous to “go there.”
“There” is our inner reality, and it’s a significant place to be. It’s the place where our nature can nurture us. It is where a sense of self, identity, and purpose lives. It is the fertile ground, or secure base, from which we build roots and branches connecting us to our passions, relationships, and the dynamic outer world as a whole. When we are out of touch with this place, we may suffer from low self-worth, a numbing or exaggerated experience of emotions, body aches, low energy, depression, isolation and withdrawal from important relationships, a sense of not belonging, or feelings of emptiness and detachment.
I offer my clients a way back to “there”—to inhabiting the body, to trusting their inner reality, to reclaiming a lost sense of agency, and to reconnecting their aliveness within their relationships. I apply a trauma-informed integrative approach that combines Mindfulness, Somatic Experiencing, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Internal Family Systems Therapy. I customize my approach to meet the needs, strengths, and personality of each client.
